Above shows a Soundpost patch and four studs along the crack. The four corners have been tipped. And the treble side bouts winged. The Soundpost patch is oval and its depth is 2/3 the thickness of the belly. It is important to keep the corners good as they protect where the ribs join at the C bouts from wear when taking the violin out or into the case. | Above right shows the new wood at the corners and bouts. The new wood has to be treated to make it look old before varnishing . In order to make a sound post patch repair a plaster cast of the belly is made and Is your workbench allowing for clamping etc. | ||
