Above shows a Soundpost patch and four studs along the crack. The four corners have been tipped. And the treble side bouts winged. The Soundpost patch is oval and its depth is 2/3 the thickness of the belly. It is important to keep the corners good as they protect where the ribs join at the C bouts from wear when taking the violin out or into the case. Above right shows the new wood at the corners and bouts. The new wood has to be treated to make it look old before varnishing . In order to make a sound post patch repair a plaster cast of the belly is made and Is your workbench allowing for clamping etc.
Above shows another Soundpost crack which also requires a patch. The rib is also broken at the lower block Above right shows the finished repair and varnish retouched
